Education
We have several ways that we help educate the people of the Inland Northwest. We provide free educational materials for people about the LGBTQ+ community and how they can be allies to a community that needs their help. If you are interested in looking at these publications in a digital format you can click on the following link to download PDF versions of those publications. PFLAG NATIONAL DOWNLOADS. If you are further interested in having some of them in print form, feel free to meet up with us at our monthly support and education meetings.
They are held on the THIRD TUESDAY of each month. * They are held at the Corbin Senior Activity Center, 827 W Cleveland, Spokane WA 99205. Meetings start at 6:30 PM.
*Excluding June & August
Advocacy
We are a national organization that has a large and supportive membership. This lets us be able to have the availability to work with government officials to move our Towns, Cities, Counties, States, and Nation in a direction of equality for all. Currently PFLAG National is working with the federal government to try and pass “The Equality Act”. This would get LGBTQ+ protections installed nationally. So folks in places like Idaho would then have a modicum of protection against unfair and unjust actions taken against them just for being LGBTQ+. The following link will take you to the PFLAG National site where they talk more about this act and also have one of the many webinars available to PFLAG members. PFLAG EQUALITY ACT
Support
WE ARE BACK!!!!!
Yes, it is TRUE, in-person support meetings are back on the schedule. So check out the upcoming events and we look forward to seeing you there.
We have monthly support meetings on the 3rd Tuesday of each month*. They are at the Corbin Senior Activity Center. 827 W Cleveland, Spokane WA 99205. The meetings start at 6:30 with an educational program. These programs are designed around having guest speakers come and talk about different issues and topics that concern the LGBTQ+ community and their friends and families. In 2019 we had a Transgender person come and speak about what it was like being in local politics as a Transgender individual. We also had a speaker from the Spokane County Health District talking about their HIV and PrEP programs. Another speaker we had was from the Washington Foster Care system talking about how LGBTQ+ people are welcomed and needed as foster parents. Follow this link to see our upcoming calendar of meetings and topics.
The second part of the meetings is support meetings. Here we sit and talk about questions and issues that someone may have about an LGBTQ+ loved one or a question about something that happened to them as a member of the LGBTQ+ community.
*Excludes June and August. With June being Pride Month, most of us are way too busy so we don’t hold a meeting that month. However, we do have our Pride Month Fundraiser Drag Show on the Thursday before Spokane Pride. So keep an eye out for that.
Also in August, we don’t have a meeting at the Corbin Senior Activity Center. That month is when we do a Friend Chicken Potluck Picnic, So we choose a park and gather in the nice weather to enjoy some good food and great friends.
