We are sad to report the passing of Drew Griffin. Following is a statement from Copper, President of the PFLAG Washington State Council.
January 24th, 2021
Dear Families, Friends and Allies in Washington State and around the PNW. It is with deep sorrow in my heart that I am informing you about the passing of Drew Griffin after an extremely hard fought battle with cancer. Drew was my friend, Vice President of our Board of Directors, PFLAG Pacific Northwest Regional Director and comrade in all things PFLAG for many years. No one ever fought as hard as Drew did for the rights and support of LGBTQAI+ people and others. He had an inextinguishable internal light that he used to warm our hearts, so we could hope for a better tomorrow.
Drew’s work brought him some amazing recognition from national organizations such as our parent organization, PFLAG National. He was only able to complete one full term as our Pacific Northwest Regional Director, but in 2 years he made a difference in the lives of many.
Collaboration with Drew has been one of the best things about volunteering with PFLAG. He was brilliant, funny and passionate about so many things and he worked his skinny ass off trying to make this a better world for all marginalized people. I will never forget his crooked smile and his hearty laugh that was always ready when something was well done or fun! I will miss you always, Drew Griffin and so will the rest of the PFLAG Washington State Council and all of our chapters across the great state you loved so much!
Our thoughts are with Drew’s partner of many years, Andrew Tasakos, Drew’s mom, Pat, his brother, nephews, stepdad and his many special friends like Mac McGregor and Jesse Samora. The list of friends who loved Drew is VERY long. We were all blessed to have Drew in our lives to lead and inspire us with his formidable advocacy and action! May those who love him know his work and caring will shine its light on us for a very long time.
Thank you, Drew, for all you did for me and all of here in Washington State.
